The ordinances of the church are solemn occasions. While there may be celebratory aspects of those ordinances, they are not to be entered into lightly. We are to approach them with sincerity and humility toward God and others.
The Doctrine and Covenants and Book of Mormon clarify how these ordinances are to be administered. They provide insight into the roles and responsibilities of priesthood, and reveal how those participating in these ordinances are brought into the presence of God for blessing, healing and uplift.
As long as there is solemnity when conducting these ordinances, they can be performed both within and without the walls of a church building.
