Question ...
What is a Conference?
Response ...
If acting in harmony with the doctrines and tenets of the original and reorganization, Restoration Branches may act independently or in harmony with other branches in secondary and governmental organizations known as conferences. Conferences may be special, branch (also known as business meetings), mission, district, stake, and general. See "A Manual of Practice and Rules of Order and Debate for Deliberative Assemblies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" (click here), compiled by Joseph Smith and Thomas W. Smith, and approved by Conference action in 1876. All of these deliberative bodies are rightly termed general assemblies but are not to be confused with the General Assembly referred to in Doc. & Cov. 104:11j; 126:10e; and CH 6:176.
Conferences may act to order permanent organizations such as districts, stakes, quorums and councils.
